Hoarding boards are used for primarily 2 reasons, although not limited to, perimeter protection and a barrier from stray metallic material contacting power infrastructure or leaving the scaffold boundaries.

Public protection is usually required by council and protection from power sources is a requirement of the "look up and live" OH & S regulations.
